How do you host a bike parade?

Last year we hosted our first ever bike parade with friends! It was so much fun! Here’s what we did to get started.

Team up with some friends (everything’s more fun when you have a team).
Pick a date, time, and location (you can use a parking lot or cul de sac).
Advertise the event to your friends/neighbors (we made a flyer on Canva.com).
Get supplies for decorating bikes and making a balloon arch.
Set up a course on the day of the event.
Turn on some music for kids to bike around and listen to.
Start the parade.
End with treats!

What do you do at a bike parade?

Bike parades can be really simple and easy to organize.

Here’s our bike parade event schedule:

Decorate bikes- Kids use lots of fun materials to decorate their bikes and scooters. Scroll down for details and links. This last for about 15 minutes while we wait for everyone to arrive.
Group picture– We like to do this before the bike parade starts in front of the balloon arch.
Parade time- We have kids follow a specific path to go around and around the course while playing music. This lasts for about 30 minutes.
Bike parade treat time- At the end of the parade, we break out popsicles and ice cream bars.

Guess what the best part of the bike parade is? The adults get to stand around and help direct traffic and chat with each other while all the kids are occupied riding their bikes and their scooters. It’s the perfect event! I definitely recommend that you host a bike parade!

Bike decorating & parade supplies

What sort of supplies do you need for bike decorating at a bike parade? Here are some of the things we got! My friend Courtney was in charge of this part and did an amazing job!

When kids arrived at the bike parade, they were directed to the bike/scooter decorating station. Grown ups came over and helped too!

Kids decorated their bikes for about 15 minutes as everyone arrived, and then it was time to get the parade started!

I loved seeing how kids decorated the spokes of their bikes with the streamers! It was so colorful!

Bike Parade Balloon Arch

One of my favorite parts of the bike parade was the amazing colorful balloon arch that my friend Karen at Brighten Events created for us!

She used a balloon arch frame underneath the balloons and then anchored them to the trees above the parade area to keep them from blowing over in the wind.

You can find an amazing balloon artist like I did, or buy a balloon arch kit and base and try and create one yourself!

PRO TIP: Make sure you grab my balloon pump if you decide to do the balloons yourself. It is a lifesaver! We’ve loved ours for years.

Bike parade treats

We can’t host a bike parade without treats! At the end of the bike parade, we had fruity popsicles and ice cream sandwiches for the kids (and adults) to eat. Plus cups of water.

Everyone had fun mingling, showing off their decorated bikes and scooters, and enjoying their cool treats after lots of riding around.

The best scooter

Although we call it a bike parade, it was mostly a scooter parade, since so many kids love their scooters! Scooters are a bit slower than bikes and kids have a bit more control of them, so they’re perfect for the bike parade.
